Issue TL;DR Install
PRIVACY.mdUpdated October 15, 2026

Privacy policy

This policy applies to the Issue TL;DR Chrome extension and to issue-tldr.com. Issue TL;DR is made by MadeByRobot LLC. We built it so that we do not need any of your data, and we do not collect any.

The extension

What it reads

When you open an issue or pull request on github.com, the extension reads that page's address to know which thread you are on. When you click TL;DR, it requests the thread (the issue or pull request, its comments, and for pull requests its reviews) from GitHub's public API at api.github.com. These requests are made without your GitHub credentials. GitHub sees them as it sees any request from your browser, under GitHub's privacy statement.

What it stores, and where

Everything is kept in Chrome's local extension storage on your computer and is never sent to us:

  • Your place in each thread you open: the thread's address, the ID and time of the last reply you saw, and its status. This is how Since last visit works.
  • Usage counts shown in the Options page: how many times you opened the panel, used Claude and copied Markdown, and on how many days.
  • Your Anthropic API key and model choice, only if you enter them in Options.

Recent GitHub responses are also held in memory while the extension is running, and dropped when Chrome stops it. Removing the extension deletes all of it.

Claude summaries (optional)

If you enter your own Anthropic API key and press Summarize with Claude, the extension sends the text of that public thread directly from your browser to Anthropic's API at api.anthropic.com, using your key. Nothing is sent to Anthropic unless you press the button. Anthropic handles that data under its privacy policy and the terms of your API account.

What it does not do

  • It has no analytics, telemetry, ads or tracking, and sends nothing to MadeByRobot LLC.
  • It does not read pages other than github.com issues and pull requests, and does not read private repositories.
  • It never writes to GitHub: no comments, reactions, subscriptions or edits.
  • It does not sell or share data, because it has none to share.

Permissions

  • Storage: to keep the local records listed above.
  • Access to github.com pages: to add the TL;DR button to issue and pull request titles.
  • Access to api.github.com: to read public threads.
  • Access to api.anthropic.com: used only for Claude summaries with your own key.

This website

issue-tldr.com has no analytics, no cookies, no ads and no third-party scripts or fonts; everything is served from the site itself. It is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes visitors' IP addresses and request details to deliver and protect the site, under Cloudflare's privacy policy. The demo on the homepage runs entirely in your browser using saved copies of public GitHub threads.

Children

Issue TL;DR is a tool for software developers and is not directed at children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date above. If a future version ever needs to collect data, it will ask you first.
